Whisper...

Today I found myself in need of a little bit of God's guidance. Not that this isn't a common scenario. Nonetheless, it is where I was. Fun fact for everyone: I have no clue what I am doing with my life. Sure I have goals and I know generally that I will be in ministry, but when it comes to actually having specific plans about even where I am going to be in the next 3 months, you can forget about it. Recently this has become even more a forethought as I am about to graduate from college and have started the dreaded process of job-hunting.

I would wager that this is the most common time for anyone in the world to ask for "God's guidance" (I am sure there is a statistic out there somewhere that would support this). More often than not, God seems to guide people to whatever position pays the most it seems...at least God stays predictable. :\ However, that is neither here nor there to my story.

So on my lunch break, I found a quiet room and read my Bible. I didn't have an agenda about what to read. I only prayed that God would show me something in there to help me. I read a lot of 2 Kings. I read about Hezekiah and Josiah. I read of Manasseh and the depths of his evil. I read. I read. I read. All the while, nothing really stood out to me as something profound that God was trying to tell me. Of course, there was no way that God would try to tell me something that wasn't profound...

Ok, maybe he would. See while I was flipping through my Bible. I found a piece of paper. It was in fact a piece of paper that I forgot about. It was a drawing given to me by a little boy at a church I was recently at. There it was. There was the thing in my Bible that I had asked God to speak to me through. It was a peace sign. Peace. That was it. That was what God wanted me to hear.

Peace. Instantly, Matthew 6:34,35 popped into mind. 33 "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Not that I read that...I was too busy with Kings.

Its funny though. I love that God will speak to us. He doesn't always do it in the ways that we expect, but often in the whisper. For me, God needed to tell me that I just have to have peace about this. He's got it.

What is God trying to whisper to you?
